Woodland Park, Colorado
Woodland Park's premier attraction is the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center, a terrific new museum with lots of hands-on activities for children. Explore the nearby Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, where you'll see giant petrified redwood stumps and learn about the prehistoric times when this high country was under the ocean. Also check out the Colorado Wolf & Wildlife Center, which features rescued wolves, hybrids and foxes. Visit the Farmers Market in the summertime on Friday’s for fresh fruits and veggies located at the new and beautiful Memorial Park.

A paved path takes bikers from town to Manitou Lake (fee park), a scenic fishing-hole eight miles away from Woodland Park. The Pike National Forest is a major hub for outdoor recreation in the area. If you like kayaking, picnics, or hiking near the lake, we absolutely love the Rampart Reservoir, as it is so peaceful with amazing views of Pikes Peak from your kayaks.

Woodland Park itself boasts a great variety of stores from interesting locally owned stores to well-known names such as Walmart, Starbucks, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Safeway, Jimmy John’s, Natural Grocers and City Market.

Dining Out - For breakfast or lunch, a local favorite is Joanie's Bakery & Deli. They have huge, delicious breakfast burritos, amazing baked goods, waffles, french toast and a full bar. The Hungry Bear is the place to go for a delicious classic breakfast. Stuft Food Emporium serves an amazing breakfast (weekends only), lunch and dinner menu. We also love The Donut Mill. If you are looking for a donut and cinnamon roll the size of your face, this place is for you!  Cafe' Leo's has unique egg sandwiches, oatmeal and latte's and a great "hippy/mountain" vibe. Our favorite coffeeshop in town is The Human Bean, and they have the best walk-up/drive-thru coffee in town! (Try the Snowy)! BierWerks Brewery is a great place to hang out with your friends near the fire and try some local beers & local food trucks. Try the Red Diamond Gastro Pub for unique and creative food and drinks. Peak View BBQ & Tap Room- Delicious BBQ & strong cocktails) Also, the Mountainara for authentic Italian food and The Swiss Chalet for romantic high-end with amazing atmosphere, Reserve 110 has an excellent outdoor patio, delicious food and cocktails. (The BLT Pita and tomato soup are our favs) AJ’s Pizza is the best in town and delivers. Coming March 15, 2023 is Roy’s Crew BBQ & Breakfast too! (These places are all in walking distance from the cabin) Additionally, there are a few dozen places to "eat out" including most of the normal fast food chains.  (Can't go wrong with Starbucks and their awesome patio.)  Go to TripAdvisor.com's Woodland Park restaurants page or click on some of our favorite restaurants below.

Hiking - Tourist Information located in the center of Woodland Park can provide more information, some of which is put out by the local Chamber of Commerce. A couple of our favorite hikes are Lovell Gulch Loop (5 miles and close by), and Red Rocks Open Space in Colorado Springs. If you would like an easy 1 mile flat hike, try Mule Creek Trail located a few miles north on why 67. Go to www.alltrails.com or download the app to find all these amazing places.

Skiing - Breckenridge is the closest skiing area. If the weather is right, it takes about 90 minutes to get there but as with any ski mountain the last bit of the road to the area is pretty hairy with several 10 mph hairpin bends - you usually need a 4 wheel drive in winter. We also enjoy skiing at the locals favorite called Monarch Mountain. It is a bit smaller, but a beautiful resort and ski runs.

Golf - Woodland Park Shining Mountain Golf Course is an 18-hole Golf Course about 2 miles out of Woodland Park on Highway 67 on the left. The course is 6,464 yards from the championship tees with a par of 70. The course rating is 71.6 and has a slope of 136 on Blue Grass. The seasons are mild and the views spectacular, which makes this a superb location for golfing.

Fishing/Camping -There is a beautiful small mountain lake just two miles from WPR on Highway 67 (fee required).  Manitou Lake is so easy to get to that picnickers gather in droves on summer weekends. Eleven Mile Canyon, known for camping, rock climbing, and fly fishing is located in Lake George at Eleven Mile Canyon (fee required). This is a must see as the rushing waters, bluebird skies, and giant boulders are breathtaking. If you go further up the road, you can kayak and boat at Lake George.

There is also a large, man-made lake up Rampart Range Road between Woodland Park and Colorado Springs.  Rampart Reservoir is our go-to place to kayak and picnic!

Highway 67 is the main route to Deckers and the South Platte River. The South Platte near Deckers is seen as one of the premier fishing streams in the state and attracts fishermen from across the nation and even from abroad. Its swift moving water with white caps and large boulders, deep pools and canyons make it one of the most scenic rivers anywhere. It is easy to get to especially as many of the most scenic locations are only a mile or so hike. Considered one of the premier areas for fishing - please see the Colorado Fishing Network.

National Parks, Hiking, Camping and Biking -  The ReEngage Retreat and The Perch are surrounded by the beauty and awe of Pikes Peak National Park.  For information on hiking and camping in Colorado, please see EveryTrail.com and The Colorado Hiker. Download the All Trails app to get the most comprehensive trail information and reviews.
